The Art of Storytelling & How It Can Help Your Business
I’ve always been a bit of a logophile – a lover of words and stories. Even in my toddler years, I’d hoard books like a dragon with gold. As I grew older my love for a good story expanded into writing them, the daydreams that would swirl through my head demanding to be shared. Storytelling is now a huge part of my career and life, and something that can be invaluable for a small business or nonprofit organization.
What’s storytelling?
Storytelling is the act of adding a human aspect to your business. People don’t buy from brands or companies, they buy because it solves their problems, makes their lives easier, or invokes some form of emotion. The way to do that, is to allow your audience to see the person behind the screen.
Through storytelling, your audience can learn that you started your doula agency because the birth of your own child showed you mothers need more support. Through storytelling, your audience can learn that your nonprofit was formed after you experienced homelessness and had no support or options in your community. From storytelling your audience can learn that you donate portions of your profits to the local little league team because you feel like sports are important in child development.
Storytelling is a beautiful way to receive writing that shines a light on your unique characteristics and shares your story with your audience. It’s the opportunity to put your feelings and sentiments in words.
How does it work?
As a former newspaper reporter and media professional, I have had the opportunity to interview hundreds of people and share their stories. The first step to creating your storytelling experience will be to sit down and have a casual conversation about the things that matter to you.
Once we’ve had the opportunity to talk and I’ve gotten to know you better, I’ll then take your stories and put them into words for you. Depending on your needs, we can create content for your blogs, social media, website landing pages, press release, or other written materials.
